My last issue is that I felt it got a bit bloated with features by the end.

I definitely bashed my head against my desk on some other chambers but I eventually worked it out and they never felt cheap. I had to check a walkthrough for chamber 23 as my mind had melted at that point and I had convinced myself something had bugged out (it hadn't) but I don't blame the game for that. Chamber 17 was one as the main mechanic was mentioned quite a while before that and not used in a puzzle otherwise. The puzzles were all engaging and difficult but not impenetrable. Also a minor point is that I found some of the ambient noises a little bit irritating - I'm usually not too bothered by it but the scraping and clicking noises did get a bit annoying. Again, this is only a negative because there was intrigue being built up - i wouldnt even be caring about the ending otherwise. I found myself in a "is that it?" moment when the ending cutscene played. Unfortunately the ending was a bit dissapointing only because the build up made it seem like something more would happen. The AI was entertaining and I was interested in the emerging story. With a little bit of QA around that feature in Chamber 17 I would have believed this was an official Valve product. This was really fun and incredible quality and polish for a mod. Don't they have "time portal only surfaces for this purpose? Why suddenly break the game and all immersion at the very end like this (wouldn't have been as peeved if it wasn't the end :/) for no reason?Īnd when you land on the final platform, physics goes all bonkers after a few seconds, and you experience a kraken (if you dodge it by entering the time-portal after having landed, you lose all control on-ground (retain some air-control tho, so you can still stay on the platform) :/ And if you try to land without placing a time-portal first, it auto-places a portal for no real apparent reason, to catch you? Seems I wasn't the only one.Īlso a bit annoyed that you not only could only place time portals on that last surface, but it even changed your inputs such that when I tried placing a regular one, it forcefully made me place a time-portal instead. I tried the same :p And then searched for why it didnt work which led me here.

I know most of this comment is me complaining about that one chamber, but the rest of the mod is genuinely fun, and I definitely recommend it! This is one of the solutions that seem unintended, but I don't see a way to solve that chamber without being able to place a time portal, and making you walk through the forcefield at the end in order to be able to go back and actually solve the puzzle is just stupid. Only then could I solve the puzzle by getting a cube to the end to open the door with. What allowed me to place time portals again, and make the chamber solve-able, was going through the chamber's exit forcefield right before the closed door. You can pass through them just fine, your portals don't reset and your objects don't get destroyed.

I don't know if the forcefields were ever explained and I just missed it, but they seem completely useless. The second issue was that I could not place a time portal anywhere other than in a tiny closed off room, the one where you have to pass through a forcefield to get into. This was done for seemingly no reason, and it was a frustrating experience, as I was trying to find the solution to a practically impossible puzzle, and then by pure frustration I fire a portal onto that key surface and it reveals that it was portal-able all along and the mod just deceived me for no reason. The first one being that one of the portal-able surfaces, essential to the puzzle, was in a much darker color than the rest of the portal-able surfaces in the room, and gave the impression that it was un-portal-able. On the other hand, though, chamber 17 was very frustrating, because of two issues (spoilers for the chamber): I feel like I completed most of the chambers in an unintended way (you can bypass all the laser doors in the final chamber, for instance), but that freedom is great, and the game even acknowledges after one chamber that my solution was not the intended one, so that was pretty neat! Went in with low expectations but ended up having a great time!
